Electronic Music (Note) Stand + Portable PC + Digital Music Player
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg175/tampico555/002-29.jpg
When musicians are playing an instrument and need to turn paper music pages, they have to stop playing their music or get some help from an assistant. Consider how important their devotion to their music is at this moment. This problem should be remedied.
CLEF supports most computer functions, such as internet access, listening to music, and even multimedia editing. Most importantly, it can be easily transformed into an electronic music stand simply by pulling a base part out of its side. In addition, a flexible LCD touch screen, which is rolled inside, provides a large enough display area for digital music notes.
A wireless foot pedal can be detached from the main unit, so whenever a musician needs to flip pages, all they need to do is press the foot pedal or touch the main screen. Therefore, it is possible for musicians to be free from unpleasant moments of having to stop playing their music. Also, separate buttons and a display on the outer part enable users to listen to music without the cover being open.

Passion
My design intent is to provide musicians with a more convenient environment for them to play and create their music.
Users’ Culture & Lifestyle
My demographic targets are musicians who enjoy and play music, such as cellists, guitarists, and composers. Their minds are open to actively accepting new products as well as music.
Market Viability
The main target is amateur and professional musicians who use a music note stand. Potentially, it includes a wider group of people who just love and enjoy music.
Size
27.9cm(W) * 8cm(H) * 8.8cm(D)
Overview of Design
a. Stands for current paper music have the problem of making users stop their performance to flip pages. This electronic music note stand, CLEF, solves this problem with extra features and delivers a new performance environment.
b. A built-in base and a wireless foot pedal are handily expanded and separated from the main unit so that there is no need to carry all of these parts with a computer.
c. According to each use, its shape is completely customized for each purpose as a stereo music player, a portable computer, or an electronic music note stand.
User & Context
Various groups of people devoted to music would be interested in this product.
For example: ¹ violinists who regularly practice with other members for their concert, ² street musicians who perform daily, ³ composers who travel for musical inspiration, etc.
Scenarios of Use
a. Scenario example;
Ray is a cellist and is planning to record a new classical music album. He meets other musicians and discusses a list of music for their new album. He opens CLEF, presents what he prepared for this meeting, and plays a few samples of music. Ray accesses the internet and finds more information about new songs. After the meeting, he pulls out the base part of CLEF and opens a file of music notes. Pressing the foot pedal and flipping pages easily, he plays a beautiful performance with the other musicians.
User Interface
The top priority of this project was the incorporation of several components (such as a base, a foot pedal, and a display) into a portable computer and making this at a compact size. I designed a foldable base, a detachable foot pedal, and a wide, flexible display rolled inside. This design makes the entire unit portable and handy.
Aesthetics
The simple prism shape and contrast of black and white deliver the simplicity and elegance of classical music. On the outer design, I wanted to show aesthetically pleasing focal points with circular shapes and curves.
Technical Aspects
For the display, a flexible LCD touch screen is used. This reduces the size of the PC when not in use. The foot pedal supports Bluetooth and is connected wirelessly to the PC. Its surface is made out of rubber and sensors detect foot pressure when flipping pages.
Ecology
It is environmentally friendly based on the fact that this PC uses a flexible LCD. Users don’t need to print out all their music notes, but can store all data and open particular files.
Manufacturability
CLEF has several foldable and movable components inside. At the same time, it was designed to be manufactured from a mechanical standpoint from the very beginning.
On the back and side parts, there are holes for thermal cooling and a memory chip is used for the main storage instead of a hard drive disk. Also, its structure, featuring a movable front cover and display, considerably contribute to a natural cooling system.
